Georgetown, Texas–TASUS encourages their employees to give back to the communities they live in by volunteering in some way. TASUS also understands the importance of the care and education of our youth. This is why we are excited to share the stories of three employees from the Texas facility who volunteered their time to better the lives of some of the local youth.

Cody Coburn is an Automation Technician at the Texas facility during the day, but in his free time he volunteers as an assistant coach for the under 5 age group for the Georgetown Youth Soccer Association. Cody says he finds it very rewarding to coach his daughter Kalynn, as well as the other children, teaching them the fundamentals of soccer as well as the importance of teamwork.

Diana Miranda also volunteers her time coaching young children. She is an assistant coach for a girls’ softball team during the spring and the fall seasons. Diana says it’s awesome to see the girls grow from T-ball to fast pitch and learn so much along the way.

Kim Mundy, Controller at TASUS Texas, volunteers her time by mentoring an at risk student through the Georgetown Independent School District. Kim is also a board member of the Partners in Education program, which works toward enhancing the education and services provided to at risk youth. In addition to that Kim works with the Georgetown Area Junior Forum, which provides meals to homeless high school students, cleaning and redecorating of the battered women’s shelter, and homework help for kids at the Boys and Girls Club. Kim says that programs like these make you feel like you can make a difference for those who don’t have what we have.

These three individuals are great examples of how you can improve the communities you live in by helping the youth. TASUS is always thrilled to receive stories of volunteerism from employees and encourages all employees to give back or volunteer in some way.

As the 2014 Winter Olympics have come to a close TASUS would like to congratulate all participating countries and their athletes. As well, TASUS would like to give a special congratulation to those athletes from the countries which we have established businesses in. This year’s Winter Olympics have been filled with excitement and it is our pleasure to share with you some of the highlights.

Thailand was represented in three Alpine Skiing events by two athletes. Neither athlete was able to win a medal, but it is still a great feat to qualify for the Olympics and we congratulate them for that.

The Chinese national team won nine medals in total. That includes three gold, four silver, and two bronze. The Chinese team won six medals in Short Track Speed Skate events. This includes two gold and three silver. The Chinese team was also able to take home the gold in the 1000M Women’s Speed Skate.

The Japanese team was able to win eight total medals. They’re only gold medal was won by a nineteen year old in the Men’s Figure Skating Free Skate. This was not the only teenager to represent Japan and take home a medal. In the Men’s Snowboard Half-Pipe two teenagers won medals. At the age of fifteen Ayumu Hirano was able to win the silver and right behind him was eighteen year old Taku Hiraoka winning the bronze.

The Czech Republic’s team had similar success to that of Japan. They too won eight medals in total, including five from Biathlon events. The Czech team was unable to win the gold in any Biathlon events but still succeeded in taking home three silver and two bronze medals. The Czech team won gold in Snowboard Cross, as well as in Speed Skating. Martina Sablikova represented the Czech Republic in the Speed Skating events. She was the defending Speed Skate champion and successfully defended her title in the 5000M Speed Skate; she also won the silver medal in the 3000M.

The United States team had a very strong showing, taking home a total of 28 medals. The team won nine gold, seven silver, and twelve bronze. The United States won three gold medals in Snowboarding events, including the men and women’s Slopestyle competitions. The United States team also won two gold medals in Alpine Skiing. The American team had a very strong performance in freestyle skiing, winning seven total medals across the events. This was the most for any one type of competition the United States competed in.

The Canadian team is always seen as a powerhouse when it comes to Winter Olympic Games. This year was no different after they took twenty-five medals, including ten gold. Canada seemed dominate in the Freestyle Skiing events after finishing with nine total medals, including four gold and four silver. The Canadian team also swept the gold for two other sports, Ice Hockey and Curling. The Men’s Hockey team won a closely contested semifinal against the American team, and then went on to blowout the Swedish team in the final. The Women’s Hockey team also won a closely contested match against the American team. The United States at one point had a 2-0 lead in the Women’s Hockey Final, but Canada was able to come back and defeat the American team 3-2. Both the men and women Curling teams won the Gold medal matches by a comfortable margin.

It takes great dedication and relentless work to compete at the highest level like these athletes have done. Much like Olympic athletes TASUS works year round to improve and perform at a high level. Congratulations to all athletes who participated in the Olympic Games and good luck with all future competitions.

On Thursday February 20, 2014 TASUS was represented by two corporate team members at the Vincennes University job fair. TASUS representatives were very excited to be at the fair and meet the innovators of tomorrow. Vincennes University has excellent programs which prepare students to become professionals. At the job fair TASUS representatives found there was an abundance of students interested in the company.

The majority of students interested in TASUS found the proximity of the plant as a benefit. TASUS is only a one hour commute for students who live on or near the campus. This is appealing because many of the students have established themselves and their families in the Vincennes area. Many students also expressed concern about the availability for favorable shift schedules. For individuals who have started a family it is difficult to agree to work second and third shifts when they will miss out on many family events. With TASUS there is not a waitlist to get favorable shifts like some manufacturers. These two factors were critical for TASUS at the job fair as many students found it much more appealing when learning of this and requested more information on careers.

TASUS representatives were also excited upon their departure from the Vincennes University. At the job fair TASUS received a stack of resumes from hardworking, qualified students. There were many students who commented on the equipment shown in the video on display at the TASUS booth. Seeing the equipment being used at TASUS excited students because it resembled the type of equipment they saw in the robotics program. These students are in a great position to step into a career and succeed right away. Vincennes has provided these students with information and training that translates directly to the jobs they want. The students recognizing and being excited by the equipment TASUS uses is just one example of how they are prepared for real jobs, and not just college assignments.

TASUS representatives agreed there was an abundance of talent at the job fair and potential for some students to become valuable members of the TASUS team. TASUS understands the future of manufacturing lies with young innovative talent, and this job fair proved to be a successful way to find those individuals.
