Bloomington, IN– The manufacturing industry is in need of young talent that can lead the next generation of manufacturing. Among the youth there has been a lack of interest in manufacturing and this has made it difficult to find trained technicians. TASUS is putting forth an effort to combat this problem by reaching out to children and young adults to educate them on the opportunities available in manufacturing. TASUS recently hosted the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of South Central Indiana for a plant tour. This tour served as an opportunity to demonstrate the work done at a manufacturing plant and educate the group on the career opportunities available.

Due to the negative connotations associated with manufacturing there are very few young men and women interested in entering this industry. This has led to an average welder’s age to be over 55 years old. This indicates that most of the trained technicians working in the manufacturing industry will be retiring over the next two decades. The manufacturing industry has become more focused on complexity and quality, both of which require highly skilled technicians. TASUS was able to share some of the positive aspects of manufacturing with the children and their “Bigs”. Many of them left with a new way of thinking about manufacturing. The children were able to see the robotics and engineering that goes into making a part, sparking some interest. It is of the utmost importance to grow the interest in the next generation and rebuild a strong manufacturing workforce. The Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization thanked TASUS for the tour and spoke of how enjoyable it was. The relationship between the two organizations will continue to grow over the years, as TASUS looks to continue to foster the growth of the next generation of workers in the manufacturing industry. Bloomington, IN– Every year around the holidays BJ Yoho, aka BJ Claus, works tirelessly to collect toys for the Riley Children’s Hospital patients. TASUS has built a lasting relationship with Yoho and looks to help him raise toys for donation. TASUS is currently collecting new toys for donation and our goal this year is to raise 500 toys by December 5th.

Toy donations can be brought to the HR department at the TASUS manufacturing facility in Bloomington. We would like to go above and beyond our goal of 500 toys so please stop by with donations. TASUS is also collecting cash donations for the purchase of new toys. Our team of Santa’s Helper Shoppers will use the cash donations to purchase toys to add to the total. If you would like to donate toys or money stop by Mark Anderson’s office or contact him via email at manderson@tasus.com.

Bloomington, IN– TASUS graphic designer Michael Majors is the featured artist at The Wiley Art Center this month. Majors has nearly fifty pieces on display throughout the gallery, half consisting of various hand drawn pieces and half consisting of handmade leather goods.

The Wiley Art Center began as the house to famous artist William T. Wiley. It was relocated and revitalized into a public art gallery in downtown Bedford, Indiana. The Wiley Art Center allows local artists to display their work for public viewing. Since Majors has been old enough to hold a pencil, he has been displaying his creativity by drawing from his imagination. He works in various media including: graphite, pen & ink, soft pastel, marker, acrylic, watercolor and most recently oil painting. His philosophy includes the idea that art is the root of all design and that creating art of his own makes him a more creative professional.
